Engagement Ceremony Rituals

 

Special Instructions

  • Poojan starts with fathers from both sides followed by Boy-Girl who are getting engaged and then concluded by both side Parents and the Boy-Girl to be engaged.

  • Fasting by everyone who will sit for Poojan is preferred.

  • The Poojan will be done facing East or North or NE.

  • Quietness is required so the cell-phones should be on vibration or silent mode.

  • Leather belts, wallets or leather wrist watch must be kept away during the Poojan.

 

List of Items (Please contact if any of the items cannot be found)

  • 2 Bajoth (usually 16” x 16” in size), Red & White Cloth

  • Ganesh Idol, Coconut (3), 

  • Copper Kalash, Whole Wheat (1 LB), Rice (2 LB)

  • Steel Dish, Spoons and Bowls (3 each), Kumkum, Chandan, Sindoor, Haldi

  • Tulsi leaves, Durwa Grass, loose Flowers, 2 Garlands, Dollar Bills (5), Coins (10)

  • Sopari (16), Nagarvel Leaves (12), Mukhwas, Nadachhadi, Janoi (sacred thread) 

  • Water, Panchamrut, Ghee-Gud or Laddu, Sweets or Gud-Dhana

  • Incense Sticks, (3) Diya, cotton wicks soaked in ghee, Aarti, Match Box

  • Karpur (Camphor Tablets), Bowl filled with Ghee

 

Sequence

  • Initial Poojan & Samkalpa (Statement of Intent) by both fathers – About 15 Minutes

  • Main Poojan (Done by both getting engaged)  – About 90 Minutes)

  • VagDaan (Verbal Promise) Rituals – About 15 Minutes

  • Conclusion of Poojan with Aarti. - About 15 to 30 Minutes.
